The remains of a Parastin soldier were discovered along a stretch of the West Wall Thursday, buried in five separate places—north, south, east, west, and central, following the points of the compass revered by the Parastin Order. The remains belonged to Jahira Kalzahad, the hero responsible for saving the remote village of Sebuus from attacks by organized gangs of outlaws last year. In spite of the Parastins’ insistence that they investigate the death of Kalzahad on their own, the Auxientian central police have sent the Auxientian Investigation Module to report their own findings. The Auxientian Chief of Police issued a statement, declaring: “The Parastin Order is too close to the matter to remain impartial.”
Kalzahad joined the Parastin Order at sixteen and trained in artillery and martial combat, including fencing and archery. She was an expert rider and mechanic, and her deeds at the village of Sebuus won her the Wyvern’s Claw for heroism. Yet that encounter produced dire antecedents.
According to Captain Smide of the Parastin Western Fortress, Parastins at the Western Wall received a number of threats via post over the past year. Each of these threats alluded to events relating to the Sebuus village encounter where the outlaw forces under bandit captain Jorome Segio were massacred by Kalzahad’s unit. Some of the posts demanded Segio’s release, promising “dire consequences” if the Parastin Order did not comply. In the time since the threats first began, the Parastins of the Western Wall increased their guard and instituted protocols for double watches.
Kalzahad’s watch companion, Sebine Roga, was on duty on the Western Wall when Kalzahad failed to report in. When questioned as to why the two were not together, Roga said that Kalzahad told her she was taking a short walk to the wall and back. Roga claims to have seen and heard nothing amiss on her watch.
