Frequently Asked Questions
- Question: $500 is a lot! What does my ticket purchase go towards?
- Answer: There is a lot of behind the scenes cost to this event. Our goal is always to break even. In the spirit of transparency, below is a breakdown of the costs that your ticket offsets:
- Question: Are payment plans available?
- Answer: Auxientia LARP offers two ways to pay: Pay-in-Full and Payment Plans. Pay-in-Full allows players to pay their entire ticket price at the time of registration. Payment Plan option requires an initial $200 payment to serve as a non-refundable deposit. The remainder of payments may be paid at monthly increments of $100. Full payment must be received by May 12th or the player will forfeit their place at the event and their deposit.
- Question: What is Auxientia’s refund policy?
- Answer: Players may be issued refunds minus any non-refundable deposit until 60 days prior to the start of the event. No refund is offered thereafter.
- Question: What is the Contribute to Player Adventure option available on the ticket site?
- Answer: Anyone can opt to support the gaming experience of other players by anonymously or publicly contributing funds to the interactive steampunk fantasy of another player (specific or unspecified). Staff will privately notify the recipient of the contribution depending on the wishes of the benefactor. These monies are intended to only go towards offsetting the ticket cost for players in genuine need of financial assistance. Any individual in need of of this program is encouraged to reach out the game runners, Nathan Pease, Hilary Dirks Norton, & Steven Townsend.
- Question: How old do you need to be to join this LARP?
- Answer: The LARP is 18 and older, no exceptions! We do this for your safety, and the nature of the LARP.
- Question: What is your current COVID-19 policy?
- Answer: In order to best protect our staff and players that are most at risk by the SARs-CoV 2 outbreak, we are requiring that everyone who can should receive the vaccine prior to coming to Auxientia. If you are getting vaccinated now, make sure to keep the paperwork handy! If you are having any symptoms concerning for COVID within 1 week prior to game, we ask that you bring a note from a healthcare provider. Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask, but may choose to do so according to their own personal comfort level. If you are having any symptoms concerning for COVID within 1 week prior to game, we ask that you bring a note from a healthcare provider.
- Additionally, we will be requiring a negative COVID test prior to arriving on site. The link to submit an image of this negative test will be sent out 24-48 hours prior to game, so anyone traveling may access it before they leave. Anyone traveling is expected to do due diligence to keep themselves healthy while traveling and are able to retake a test upon arrival if desired. Tests still be available on site if someone begins presenting symptoms, but we do not have enough tests for everyone. If there are any questions, you may speak to Hilary Norton, the representative of Auxientia staff.
- An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any semi-public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and people with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. By participating in the Auxientia LARP event, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19. Help keep each other healthy. Please check back as this will be updated with changes as our event progresses.
- Question: It’s in the 1800s, so does that mean I can’t wear clothing with modern elements or extreme style clothing?
- Answer: If your character would, then have a blast! That said, you are a member of one of the great factions of the city. Showing pride in your house and identifying yourself as a member of a particular faction is highly encouraged, but not required. Each faction uses a specific color to identify themselves. You can decide how to show faction pride in your costume. Although some Auxientians use wyvern parts for function such as weapons and armor, the wearing of wyvern remains for decorative purposes is considered taboo, especially by the Bāhira, and is often an easy way to identify a poacher.
- Question: Do I need to provide my own costume?
- Answer: Costuming is one of the few things not included in the overall registration price. Players will need to provide their own costuming for the event. We are not strict regarding costuming, but our standards are that no clothing be used that would be considered too modern (tee-shirts, sneakers, clothing with logos, etc).
- Question: What if I have an extreme phobia of spiders and snakes? Why do you need to know this?
- Answer: Simply put, so we don’t add spiders or snakes to the plot! We ask you to be truthful with us prior to the game, and only add things that truly are a phobia and extreme fears. Some things we cannot stray from plot-wise, and in those instances we will contact you directly and work with you.
- Question: Do I have to participate in everything?
- Answer: We will design a personalized experience for you, but everything in Auxientia is opt-in. We encourage you to make fun, interesting, and bold choices! While your character may want to “win” for their faction, the objective for you as a player should be to make choices and discover where it leads your character, your faction, and the city. Audaces fortuna iuvat!
- Question: How long is the LARP? Where is it located?
- Answer: The official address will be announced to players in the Player’s Guide which will be made available to them as the game gets closer. The LARP will start on a Friday evening and continue to Sunday morning.
- Question: Can I order a shirt?
- Answer: Absolutely! We have shirts and more available through Threadless. The talented Jesse Coder designed our cool faction logos.
- Question: Will a photographer be there? How can I access the photos?
- Answer: Steven Townshend of Distant Era photography will be not be on site this year, but is offering players photo session vouchers you can use after the event. Steven is an amazing photographer and we adore him! Our staff will be taking photos whenever possible to capture moments throughout the weekend. Photos will later be posted on our official social media accounts. Anyone participating in a photography session with Distant Era will have their photographs sent to them directly.
- Question: What sets you apart from other LARPs?
- Answer: That’s a great question! We have come up with a really unique event. But things we are most excited to share are our character creation, utilizing Discord for official role-play before game, how individualized your experience will be, our creative mechanics that engage your imagination and senses, and the plot devices we will be using before the game starts to immerse you in the game before you even travel to play with us!
- Question: I want to bring my own LARP weapons, real steel weapons, NERF blaster, etc. Is that okay?
- Answer: You may not bring your own real steel weapons. However, a NERF blaster that has been modified to fit the steampunk aesthetics of our world is welcome. All weapons, whether for function or looks, must be pre-approved by staff. Some things are okay, and some aren’t. Please see the Weapons and Safety pages. If you are at all unsure, reach out to staff and we will answer specific questions.
- Question: I want to bring my own alcohol. Is that okay? Will alcohol be provided?
- Answer: You may not bring your own alcohol. We will serve alcohol as part of the story at specific times to participants that choose to opt-in, but players may not bring their own. Only participants who are 21-years-old or older may drink alcohol and this will be strictly enforced. We do so for the safety of players and staff.
