Swords
The most popular weapon of choice in Auxientia are blades (see also Fighting). Master craftsmen display their skill by infusing weapons with both beauty and deadly design. Although the Bāhira and Parastin metalsmiths forge most of the weapons in Auxientia, legendary sword wielders have arisen from all of the city’s factions, each with their own distinctive styles of ending conflicts.
Bāhira crafted blades: The most common types of weapons crafted by the Bāhira are bows, arrows, spears, and pikes. However, Bāhira are most renowned for their skill in crafting swords, a tradition which predates the founding of Auxientia. Bāhira swords are distinctive for their curved, one-edged blades used for dispatching enemies with a deadly slash.
Parastin crafted blades: Parastin metallurgy techniques are a well kept secret passed down from master smiths to their carefully selected apprentices. A mix of technology and magic, Parastin blades are difficult to produce but extremely effective. Parastin swords are recognized for being lightweight with two edges to cut and thrust at enemies with deadly precision. Parastins infuse their swords with magic to enhance the natural characteristics of the sword wielder to make bolder choices in combat. However, the powers of a Parastin blade are not for everyone. While a determined fighter gains focus, a brave warrior may become reckless. A cautious swordsman may become frozen with fear where a clever person becomes a cunning tactician.
Guns and Gunpowder Vs Blasters
Auxientia is a city of rich resources found nowhere else in the world. What it provides in its abundance of unique metals and stones it lacks in others. The means to create gunpowder is sadly (or thankfully) in short supply. Travel to and from the outside world is not impossible, but Auxientia’s rough terrain combined with its deadly wildlife has made trade on a large scale an extremely risky venture. This impracticality keeps most citizens from owning a gun. Those few possessing both gunpowder and the weapon to fire it should use it only in the most dire situation.
Recently, Luciole Ltd. has developed a new technology known as “blasters.” Unlike guns which require gunpowder and are therefore noisy, blasters are much quieter and have the potential to be just as lethal.
Improvised Weapons
Not all citizens of Auxientia prefer a blade. Some citizens are new to a faction, do not have the means to afford a mastercrafted blade, or wish to hide their lethal intents behind more everyday items. For some, the wrench, pipe, or the odd bit of wood is the way to survive the mean streets at night. Sometimes people cobble together unique weapons of their own design using found items the city has discarded. Not all craftsmen rely on the hammer and anvil to forge their weapons. The blackmarket provides for all those in need.
